Nick Marshall Invited to Senior Bowl

MOBILE, Ala. (WPMI) -- The Senior Bowl is around the corner (seriously, players check in on Sunday) and Auburn's Nick Marshall just made the cut. Addedas an alternate earlier this week, Marshall will play quarterback for the Southteam. And he has Marcus Mariota's lack of an answer to a Senior Bowl invite tothank for that."Because of the unique nature of the Marcus Mariotacircumstance, we felt like instead of waiting around, with some of the changeswe've had on the roster it frees up at least a spot," Senior Bowl executivedirector Phil Savage told, he thought that the next-best player to bringon would be Nick Marshall. He's going to play quarterback. He is not going toexperiment at cornerback this next week. And if Mariota accepts we would havethe unusual circumstance of having four quarterbacks on one side."

If Mariota does indeed head to Mobile next week, theSouth team would end up with four quarterbacks, which would be a first.

Marshallhas indicated he'd be willing to play defensive back at the next level, whichis where many personnel types project him. I know the next month when hegoes to the combine, even if he goes as a quarterback, at the end of themeeting they ask 'What alternate positions do you want to see some of theseplayers at?' The hands are going to go up, 'We want to see Nick Marshall in thedefensive backfield,'" Savage said.

Marshallthrew for 4,508 yards with 34 touchdowns and 13 interceptions while rushing for1,866 yards with 23 touchdowns in two seasons as the Tigers' starter. He guidedAuburn to an SEC championship and national championship appearance in 2013.

TheSenior Bowl will be played Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. ET (NFL Network).
