Lady Rattlers move on to Finals with win over Hartselle


AHSAA - BIRMINGHAM Unbeaten LeFlore of Mobile scored the first 11 points of the Class 6A girls' semifinal game with Hartselle Wednesday morning, then staved off a steady Lady Tigers comeback to win 58-50 to advance to Saturday's championship game of he 2016 State Basketball Finals at the BJCC Legacy Arena.
The Lady Rattlers (34-0) of Coach Darrell Walton led the entire way, but Coach Gary Orr's Tigers (24-12) pulled to within six at 46-40 with 5:10 to play. Senior Japonica James scored the next six LeFlore points to stretch the lead to 10 and LeFlore held on for the win. James finished with 19 points and 14 rebounds to pace the Rattlers. Jaz Hill and Daisha Bradford added 12 points each. Bradford also had nine rebounds and Hill handed out six assists.
Freshman Moriah Taylor sank four 3-point goals and finished with 24 points to lead Hartselle. Senior Kayla Key added 10 points and eight rebounds.
The 6A girls' finals will be Saturday at 12:30 p.m. at the BJCC.
The 1A girls' and boys' finals will be Thursday at 4 and 5:45 p.m. respectively. Classes 2A, 3A and 4A play girls' and boys' championships Friday while the State Finals conclude Saturday with Classes 5A, 6A and 7A championship games.
