#8 Blount Leopards (4-1; 3-1) vs. #5 McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets (4-0; 3-0)

It’s week #6 in the season and it’s just past the midway point and time for more non-region games. This week the UTV44 Game of the Week is back at Lipscomb Stadium for the matchup between the Blount Leopards and the undefeated McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets.

For the Blount Leopards, head coach Lev Holly is hoping starting quarterback Jacoby Jones will be back for this week after missing last week’s game against B.C. Rain due to an ankle injury. If out, Jones’s replacement is freshman Melvin Williams who relied heavily on running back Trajan Pugh who scored three touchdowns in the 41-8 win over B.C. Rain. The defense was right back to their stingy ways, only giving up 8 points to the Red Raiders after giving up 42 to Saraland the week before. Linebacker Cortlin Martin is leading this defense that is still only giving up 15 points per game which includes one shutout on the season.

McGill-Toolen’s 1st year head coach, Earnest Hill will look to keep the Yellow Jackets regular season winning streak in tack. McGill-Toolen has now won 19 regular season games in a row following last week’s 35-13 win over Foley which also is 19 region wins in a row. Their last region lost was to Murphy in 2014 and the last regular season loss was to the 17-14 to the Blount Leopards. The Yellow Jacket offense is led by junior quarterback Sheldon Layman. Layman already has multiple offers going into this season and will look to senior running back Bryan Hill to help carry the load for the offense. Layman had one of his best games passing games of the season last week against Foley. He was 17 out of 21 for 285 yards and three touchdowns. Turner McLaughlin and Oakley Coleman to pick up where they left off last season. The stingy McGill defense continues their stingy ways led by senior defensive back and Eric Garror.

Murphy holds the advantage in the series, 48-36-1. Tune in to see who will be painting the cannon, kickoff is set for Friday at 7pm on UTV44.
