McGill-Toolen wins the school's first ever Girl's State Soccer Championship defeating Vestavia Hills 2-0.
In an intense matchup that was tied scoreless going into the second half, the game at Huntsville’s John Hunt Park was like the plot out of a movie; after losing in the state semifinals for the past four season, the Yellow Jackets took down the defending state champions, the Lady Rebels.
Sophomore Angelina Piccini made a goal to give McGill a 1-0 lead with 47:33 left to play and Junior Chloe Martin scored in the final 10 minutes to give the Yellow Jackets their 2-0 final score.
Senior goalkeeper Eva Knapstein was named the Class 7A State Championships MVP; she blocked six shots to secure the shutout over the Vestavia Hills.
This stunning performance was all under first-year, McGill-Toolen Head Coach Cheryl Flores.
Congratulations toMcGill-Toolen! You represented the Gulf Coast amazingly well!
