We are in the thick of March Madness with the Final Four set to tip off this Saturday. So in keeping with the same theme, we wanted to highlight four female basketball standouts from right here on the Gulf Coast that you need to know.

We start with one of UTV44's own Standout Student Athletes, Unique Thompson.

Unique is a senior forward at Faith Academy who has signed to play college basketball at Auburn University next year.

The 6'2" Theodore native has gathered her fair share of accolades while at Faith including taking home the MVP for the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game where she scored 34 points, had 17 rebounds, and four blocked shots.

She was also named MVP for the Alabama North-South All-Star game where she raked in another 17 points, 15 rebounds, and two blocks.

While at Faith Academy, Unique averaged 18.5 points and 13 rebounds a game in addition to blocking 61 shots and making 67 steals.

Other notable awards received by Unique are as follows: 2017 Alabama Player of the Year by Birmingham Tip Off Club, First Team of the Super All-State girls basketball team, ranked 15th among all forwards by ESPN, two-time Class 5A first-team All-State selection, and a two-time first-team Coastal Alabama selection.

Side Note: She can beat anybody in one-on-one.

Stay tuned for Part Two of our four part story!
