Week three continues region play as Friday Night Rivals head to Ladd Peebles Stadium for a 7A Region 1 showcase between the Baker Hornets and the Davidson Warriors.

For the Baker Hornets, fourth year head coach Danny Smith and his team will be looking to get their first win on the short season. The Hornets did not open the season until Week #2 and that was a 24-0 loss to region rival Theodore. The 2017 offense only averaged 15.9 points per game and this year’s team looks to improve on that number as seven starters are returning for 2018. The offense is led by a pair of senior running backs in Josh Pruitt and Fernando Billups. It’s only been one game but the Hornets have not helped themselves as they turned the ball over three times last week against the Bobcats. The defense this week will have their hands full with the Davidson running game. They are led by defensive lineman Dea Hayes and linebacker Terreal Crain.

Shawn Smith and the Davidson Warriors look to stay on the winning ways following their 32-21 victory over Alma Bryant. Smith has taken over the rains in place of Fred Riley who is on administrative leave following the player’s hazing incident this summer. Davidson open the 2018 season with a 21-13 loss at Meridian, MS. The 2017 offense averaged 22 points per game and this season were looking to starter Tim Johnson to lead the offense but after an injury during a practice, backup quarterback Jaden Jorden has started the last two games. The Warriors main offensive weapon is running back Kolbe Blunt who last week alone had over 200-yard rushing and three scores. Last year’s defense only gave up 10.2 points per game, but through two games in the short 2018 season they have already given up 42 points.

Davidson leads the overall series with a record of 32-6 over the Hornets including last season’s 28-0 win. Baker’s last win over the Warrior came in 2015 when they won 41-20. Neither team wants fall behind in one of the toughest regions and they are set to battle this Friday night kickoff is set for Friday at 7pm on UTV44.
