Lifeguards have already put up the red flags as a precaution even though moderate conditions are still visible along the beach.
The day started with yellow flags, bringing out hundreds of people and families looking for a good time at the beach before the rough surf ahead for the weekend.
Ashley Colokonsky, a visitor, said, " We're leaving here tomorrow so we're going to be just ahead of whatever is coming Barry maybe is that what they said."
"Anytime we post a red flag what it means is expert swimmers only so unless you are a really strong swimmer you really need to stay out of the Gulf. It's never safe to enter the Gulf of Mexico but, especially when we post red flags whether its high surf or rip currents," says Gulf Shores local, Melvin Shepard.
For swimmers it's about being aware. For lifeguards it's about making sure everyone stays safe, even if it means staying out of the water.
