Mobile police arrested 50-year-old Gabriel Stewart after they say he attempted to rob the Commonwealth National Bank located at 2214 Saint Stephens Road.
Stewart was arrested shortly after and is charged with robbery in the first degree. Police said he was not armed.
According to court documents, Stewart has been convicted of robbing a bank twice before.
He was convicted for robbing Gulf Federal Bank on Springhill Avenue in 1998 and was sentenced to 6 years and 6 months in that case.
He was also convicted for robbing the Coastal Waters Credit Union on Springhill Avenue in 2007 and was sentenced to 5 years and 6 months in that case.
There have been two other unrelated bank robberies in the past week. Both happened on Friday, September 6.
One was at PNC Bank at the corner of Cottage Hill and Schillinger Road, and the suspect in that robbery was located and arrested in Houston, Texsas. Another was at BBVA Bank on Bel Air Boulevard, and the suspect in that robbery has also been arrested.
