ALEA has issued a correction: They originally reported the northbound vehicle that swerved into the path of Rooney’s Honda Accord was a 2013 Ford F-150. They have since corrected that statement. Rooney's vehicle was struck by a 2012 Honda Accord.
A Mobile County teenager was killed in a head-on crash on Schillinger Road Friday night, according to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
Around 5:40 p.m. Friday, a four vehicle crash claimed the life of 18-year-old Devinee Rooney from Mobile, Alabama.
ALEA Troopers said she was killed when she was driving southbound on Schillinger road and was hit head-on by a northbound vehicle.
Troopers said the collision happened near Tara Drive, where several northbound vehicles swerved to avoid a car pulling out into traffic.
The driver of the Ford was transported to University Hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Troopers said there were two other vehicles involved. Those vehicles collided in the northbound lanes. Neither drivers sustained serious injuries.
Nothing further is available as troopers continue to investigate the cause of the crash.
Several Facebook posts have been made mourning Rooney's death. The posts say she was set to graduate from Theodore High School Tuesday, May 26. One post says a candlelight vigil will be held for Rooney at 7:30 p.m. Saturday at the high school's football field.
