Mayor Stimpson was selected as one of only 40 mayors in the inaugural class of the Bloomberg Harvard City Leadership Initiative because of his leadership, creativity, and commitment to improving the lives of residents. This program is the world’s first comprehensive effort to connect city leaders with the latest tools, best practices, and know-how needed to lead a more innovative and responsive local government in this day and age.
“I am honored to be included in this competitive program,” said Mayor Stimpson. “This opportunity will equip our city leadership to make progress on the policies that are most important to our citizens.”
The focus is on enabling the mayor and senior staff to bring best practices back to Mobile in order to improve the city and the lives of residents. This initiative is a collaboration among Bloomberg Philanthropies, Harvard Kennedy School, and Harvard Business School. The year-long program begins today with a three-day session in New York City, followed by a four-day session in August.
Following the in-person sessions, Mayor Stimpson will benefit from a series of additional resources and support delivered to him at home over the course of the year. These include access to global policy and management experts, bespoke research, virtual learning opportunities and support from Harvard students. Participation in this program is fully funded, including tuition, accommodation, meals and airfare.
