A man was arrested after deputies say he admitted to fatally shooting his girlfriend at her home in Bay Minette Friday night.
Deputies with the Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Uniform Services Division were called to a report of a domestic dispute in the 9000 block of Cottage Hill Road in Bay Minette around 9:10 p.m. Friday.
When deputies arrived, they found the victim, identified as 35-year-old Candise Marie Kleinatland, inside the home suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Deputies attempted life saving measures, but Kleinatland was pronounced dead at the scene.
BCSO said Kleinatland’s live-in boyfriend, identified as 39-year-old Elzie Rufus Joiner, was taken into custody on the scene after admitting to deputies he shot Kleinatland. BCSO said this appears to be a domestic violence related murder.
A 12-year-old was inside the residence when the shooting happened, but BCSO said the child was not harmed.
Joiner was transported to the Baldwin County Sheriff’s Correction Center and charged with murder, discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling or vehicle and reckless endangerment. He was also served an alias writ of arrest warrant for driving with a suspended license.
Joiner has no bond at this time.
