A kayaker discovered a body washed up near the Port of Pensacola Thursday afternoon.
The Pensacola Police Department said the body was found in the rocky area along the shore.
According to the Pensacola News Journal, the body was pulled from the water at about 2 p.m. in the afternoon at the 17th Avenue boat ramp.
NBC 15's sister station WEAR reported that the Escambia Sheriff's Office is also assisting the PPD in the investigation.
" We are working with Pensacola Police Department in reference to a found body," Maj. Andrew Hobbs, a spokesperson for the Escambia County Sheriff's Office, said. "We are working with the medical examiner to positively identify the body. At this time, there doesn't appear to be any foul play."
Officials have not released the gender of the person found, and also say it is too early to determine the cause of death.
