A man and woman from Florida were arrested after a pursuit that started on I-10 in Mississippi and ended in Alabama, Biloxi police said.
Around 10:52 p.m. Friday, the Biloxi Police Department responded near mile marker 44 on I-10 for a call about a stolen vehicle. When officers arrived, they saw the reported vehicle travelling eastbound and attempted to pull the vehicle over.
Police said the vehicle failed to stop, so a pursuit was initiated. During the chase, police said one of the people in the vehicle began firing shots towards the officers.
The chase entered Alabama where police said the suspects left the vehicle and ran. Police were able to find the suspects and take them into custody. They were identified as 23-year-old Willie George Byrd and 20-year-old Ashley Leann Hurd, both of Pensacola, Florida.
Police said Hurd was charged with possession of stolen property and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Byrd was charged with possession of stolen property, felony eluding and aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Police said Byrd was also a wanted fugitive by the state of Florida.
Both were taken to the Harrison County Adult Detention Center where Hurd was incarcerated on a $350,000 bond and Byrd was incarcerated on a $400,000 bond imposed by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain.
Police said no one was injured during this incident and the investigation is ongoing.
