UPDATE: As of 4 p.m. Wednesday, Alvin Allen posted the $10,000 cash component needed to be released.
Officials with the Mobile County Metro jail have confirmed that murder suspect Alvin Ray Allen was released in error Tuesday Afternoon.
Allen was given a preset $100,000 bond by the Grand Jury, 10% of which was to be in cash.
Employees at the jail did not see the cash requirement and allowed Allen to post a property bond covering the entire $100,000, according to law enforcement sources.
According to court records, an arrest warrant has been issued for Allen.
Allen was arrested Tuesday and charged with the 1980 murder of Sandra Cassidy Williams.
The Mobile County Sheriff's Office released the following statement:
On September 10, 2019, The Mobile Metro Jail released ALVIN RAY ALLEN on a $100,000.00 bond from four bonding companies. Mobile County Corrections Officer who was processing ALLEN did not see the $10,000.00 cash component at the bottom of the Writ of Arrest.
We are currently reviewing procedures with Corrections Officers who work in Docket, The Circuit Clerks Office and the Circuit Court Office as it relates to District Attorney Grand Jury Indictments.
