A late night police chase in Mobile ended with shots being fired and a suspect dead.

State troopers tell us shortly before 10 p.m. Thursday night a chase was sparked in west Mobile as officers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation.

The suspect then made his way down I-10 exiting at the causeway.

The man swiped another car during the chase, causing minor damage.

That's when Alabama State Troopers say the male suspect got out of his car, fired on Troopers, and wandered into the thicket.

Alabama State Troopers tell us that's when they heard what they believe were gunshots.

Troopers quickly found the man dead in the water of the thicket.

The Alabama State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the cause of death.
