The Bankhead tunnel's makeover is underway.
According to the Alabama Department of Transportation's twitter page, the tunnel with get a vibrant paint job.
The east side of the tunnel will be painted the new colors. The west side will remain the same color.
Thousands of people will get a chance to see the new look because about 28,000 cars travel through daily, east and westbound.
The tunnel has a long history here in Mobile. It opened to the public in 1941 and cost $4 million., and it's a little more than 3,300 feet long.
The Bankhead Tunnel is set to reopen at 4 a.m. It will close each night at 9 p.m. through Thursday.
