Baldwin County nurse pleads guilty to unlawful dispensing, fraud charges

Angela Burt Close has pleaded guilty to the Unlawful Dispensing of Morphine and Healthcare Fraud in Federal Court. According to court documents, close was a Licensed Practical Nurse at a medical clinic in Baldwin County and forged prescriptions in her own name, and family member' names, for Morphine.

In the signed plea agreement, Close admits that she would take blank prescription pads and forge the doctors signature for Oxycodone, Morphine, and diet pills. She would fill the prescriptions at local pharmacies. According to the court filing, she would do this at least twice a month.

Close also admits in the filing that the forged prescriptions would equate to between 400 and 700 kilograms of marijuana equivalency.

Close faces up to 20 years in federal prison and a $250,000 fine.
