Daphne Police confirm an officer shot and killed what he suspected to be a rabid fox in the Lake Forest subdivision in Daphne at 6:15 p.m. Sunday night. The fox was shot less than 200 yards away from where a man reported being bitten by a fox at 4:30 Sunday near the pool area. A witness tells NBC 15 News the man was bitten twice, in his foot and his backside. He was treated at Malbis ER.
“Pool goers chased it away with a whiffle ball bat,” said Sgt. Jason Vannoy.
This attack happened five days after another rabid fox was found near the same area of Lake Forest. The couple who discovered it ran to a fenced-in tennis court and waited until authorities arrived.
The fox that was shot Sunday night will be tested for rabies Monday.
