The Alabama Department of Transportation (ALDOT) will begin a resurfacing project on US 98 in Mobile County next week.
The project scope includes resurfacing and restriping 10.5 miles of US 98 from the Mississippi State Line to Snow Road. The installation of centerline rumble stripe will also be included in this project.
Centerline rumble stripe is intended to reduce the number of crossover collisions by alerting drivers with an audible warning and physical vibration that they are leaving the driving lane. US 98 will be the first state highway in Alabama to receive this safety measure.
Work will be performed Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.; however, work will not take place within school zones from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. The project is expected to be completed by fall 2017.
The $ 1.7 million contract was awarded to Hosea O. Weaver & Sons.
