Alabama schools will soon have a new program to coordinate communications between law enforcement and schools.
The program is called the Alabama Emergency Alert System for Education.
It's an addition to the "N-Side" school safety platform.
The system takes the existing notification and emergency alert systems already in place in schools and combines them into a single mass platform.
"That allows first responders from the state level to the local level to have a better picture of what's going on in real time."
Steven McKinney of "N-Side" says schools just have to include a phone number to their existing rapid notification system in order for the new platform to get all emergency alerts.
