Lace up your sneakers and get walking! Wednesday, April 26 is National Walk at Lunch Day and some area groups are asking you to get out of the office for a while and participate.
The City of Prichard and the American Cancer Society will walk around the perimeter of the Prichard Municipal Complex (216 East Prichard Avenue) beginning at 11:15am. Water and healthy snacks will be provided for participants. Residents are asked to come out and participate from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama will host a walk today at Government Plaza in downtown Mobile beginning at 11am. National Walk at Lunch Day is expected to draw hundreds of participants from the Mobile area. Local businesses, vendors, and health organizations will also be available at Government Plaza from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m.
BCBS says this important walking event is part of a growing national workplace fitness effort created in response to recent studies showing Americans do not have time during their day to exercise. This commitment can help reduce the likelihood of future health problems and can help lower overall healthcare costs for both the employer and employees.
BCBS hopes these events will encourage people with busy lifestyles to enjoy a nice walk during their lunch break.
