Gulf Shores police are negotiating with a man who is armed and threatening to commit suicide by setting himself on fire.

Officials are in the 1800 Block of Fort Morgan Road in Gulf Shores at the Island Retreat RV Park.

Police received the 911 call at about 9 p.m. Sunday night. When they arrived on the scene they found the man brandishing a firearm. At this time no shots have been fired, but the man is not cooperating with authorities. Officials say what they saw when they arrived led them to believe that the man had already attempted to commit suicide. Right now, officials are attempting to get him to come out of the RV without hurting himself. Officials say when it comes to working this case, "slower is better" as they do not want to force someone in distress into committing an act that could hurt themselves or others around him.

Authorities say everyone in the area who could have been in harms way has been evacuated.

Multiple law enforcement agencies are on the scene helping Gulf Shores police at this time including Baldwin County Sheriff's Department, Foley, and Orange Beach Police Departments.

Local 15 is live on the scene and will continue bringing you the latest development of this active scene as they become available.
