The Mobile Area Education Foundation (MAEF) is working to retain more people in Mobile who have college degrees.
In a news conference today the foundation said, "Currently, we fall way below the national average, only 30-percent of Mobile residents have degrees."
With the changing job market, MAEF representatives say that number needs to double. "The finish line has moved. It is no longer about graduating high school."
One key program to increase those numbers is a partnership with South Alabama and Bishop State.
A few students will be transitioning over to South from Bishop this fall.
The majority will make the transition in the fall of 2018.
